Update: yes it does work without wifi so it can be taken on the go. Only you cannot download new tonies without the wifi connectionDo yourself a favor and BYPASS setting up on the app. That does NOT work. We set it up with the laptop and it was connected in about 2 minutes. When you setup on the laptop they will tell you that you have to find the specific tonies "wifi" network. That is probably why it never worked with setting up on the app. They don't tell you that in any of the instructions on the app. Now that it's setup the kiddo loves it. The characters are so cute that they keep taking them to play with! It's so simple to use and setup new characters. Just pop them on or off and you are good to go. Child can easily turn the volume up and down. Will have to go into settings because they want to skip certain stories and songs and we haven't figured that part out. We haven't been out of wifi range with it so I don't know if it will play without wifi or not while we travel. But you can buy headphones (they sell one) to connect to it so your child can just listen to it alone. You can either leave it plugged in on the dock or once its charged take it off so the child can take it around the house. The sides are soft and padded. A great screen free device to have and if you wait for prime or black friday you can get it for an amazing price. Definitely a great gift to give whether it's a birthday holiday or just because.

My 3yr old LOVES her Tonie box. She dances to the songs and listens to the stories. Great break from screen time. The Tonies are cute and fun to collect. It’s a nice size and weight for her. I love that you can control the volume!!!

The quality and easiness to use has been great.

Takes a little time to download the app and get it connected to wifi but that doesn't take away from the fact that kids love this. My child will sit and listen to her stories for what seems like ages. The amount of characters that you can find for this is endless.Long battery life and portability are also a plus and add in the interactive controls for volume up/down, fast forward and rewind, makes for a great interactive toy for children of all ages.

My son LOVES this toy! Don't listen to the people who compare this to "screen time" or anything regarding that. This truly helps kids develop. My 2 year old son loves to pick out his characters and just have it as background music while he plays. He is beginning to start to know all the songs. His favorite is the snoop dogg one. Although, the music isn't authentic, you can definitely tell it is sang by someone else.

Excellent bundle. My kids are big fans of paw patrol. They listen to the stories every day when we drive to school.
