Great cooker
Pressure cooker is awesome.Slow cooker is great.Steamer, no sure yet. In an effort to steam rice it requires that you buy a steamer rack from a third party that are all bigger than advertised. Then you have to buy a bowl. I have tried it once and am not impressed but am still trying.

Floater valve broke after 2 months
I loved it for 8 uses. Right in the middle of cooking a pot of beans the floater valve broke, and the cooker is now unusable. Amazon won't accept the return after 30 days. The manual says to either call or email so I emailed (phone calls can be a nightmare, as many people know). A Customer Service Rep by the name of David Ostrowski is in the process of NOT trying to help me resolve the problem through email. Deni is jerking me around by expecting me to purchase replacement parts myself.I have asked if Mr. Ostrowoski if Deni received my warranty card and the question remains ignored. I have called customer service and left 2 messages (no one really answers the phone). When I objected (through email)to just being told to order the part and accused him of jerking me around he merely responded that ordering and purchasing are not the same thing. Not sure what that means, but unhelpful and uninformative nevertheless. (flip one-liner)Okay, then. So here it is. I do not recommend buying Deni. Here is the copy and part of the customer service rep. email address:From: David Ostrowski <David_Ostrowski@deni.com>To: "'wockenflock@yahoo.com'" <wockenflock@yahoo.com>Sent: Tuesday, May 7, 2013 1:34 PMSubject: pressre cooker float valveAt the bottom his email messages it says this:"This message is being sent and is intended for, the exclusive use of its intended recipient and may contain information that is privileged or confidential or otherwise legally exempt from disclosure. What a jerking around I got! We'll see what happens.

Great cooker - almost perfect
I have used conventional pressure cookers for over 20 years. I am very familiar with issues of safety, efficacy and style. I love pressure cookers because of considerable saving in time, in energy usage and the substantially higher quality of the cooking results.I bought the Deni 4.2Qt (or 4liter) pressure cooker because it promised to avoid the most significant hassles of using pressure cookers - you have to watch the cooker carefully! First, you have to note when the pressure is reached, second you have to time the cooking interval, third you need to make sure that the cooker remains at the chosen - high or low setting and finally you have to remember to turn the heat off. The Deni takes care of all these hassles because you can just set it up and go do other things while the cooker does all of the above by itself. Although it does occupy more space and is not stylish at all, it is very very quiet in its operation. Also, there is no mess due to boiling over.My only peeves are (1) you cannot time in intervals less than a minute, and (2) there is no obvious way to simmer the food. These are relatively minor issues that prevented me from giving this cooker a perfect 5.Overall, this electric pressure cooker is a huge improvement above conventional - over the burner - pressure cookers.

Keep a can of air freshener handy
First, I own a 2 qt Deni pressure cooker that I am very happy with. I decided to try a larger one. I ordered the 4.2 qt (part no. 9740) and decided to wash and try it right after receiving it. I like Butternut squash. I peeled the squash and cut into chunks. Into the pressure cooker the chunks went and after adding water following the written directions, I started the process. Soon I had the pungent aroma of burnt squash wafting thru my home. I checked the unit. The countdown timer had never started. Therefore, the unit never reached pressure. Why was that? It turned out there was no safety valve pin inserted in the cover. I found it in my wash basin in the sink. The gasket, I found out later, that holds it in place was missing. All the water had evaporated. There was a slip of paper in the box that suggested contacting the supplier with problems before returning to Amazon. I emailed them. I got a terse response. (Paraphrasing) "Gasket is missing, call us." I called and was told the gasket would be mailed to me and it could take up to seven days to receive. I am a Prime member at Amazon. I like the two day delivery. I pay for it. I pointed out to the Deni customer service rep that it would be faster to return the unit to Amazon and get a replacement from them. He hung up on me. I do not like that. I am returning the unit and will not get a Deni replacement. I will buy a competitors product.

Works fine
I've had this for a month. It works fine as a pressure cooker until now. When this one arrived, I thought the finish (lid et) looked a bit cheap compare to my 2-quart pressure cooker.
