Amazing Photo Chronicle Of The Tomcat's Career
This is book is a great photo chronicle of the F-14's thirty-plus year career. There is a little bit of text giving some good background information at the start of each chapter. But most of the book is carried on the wings of David F. Brown's amazing photography. These photos excellently showcase the Tomcat's impressive career. This book is worthy addition to any aviation library, especially if you're a fellow Tomcat lover

Outstanding Photographs and Descriptive Text Tell the F-14 Story
Noted author and photographer David F. Brown has provided aviation enthusiasts and art lovers with another gem: “F-14 Tomcat: Grumman's ‘Top Gun’ from Vietnam to the Persian Gulf,” part of the Schiffer Legends in Warfare series. The author starts with a concise but complete story of the F-14’s development and quickly moves to the Tomcat’s early years in the US Navy. He provides representative photos, some that may be familiar to Tomcat fans, but all are excellent quality. (An example is the photo of an early F-14 carrying fourteen Mk. 82 bombs: I don’t recall seeing it in color or as sharp as it is here.) The text continues with the Tomcat’s variants and operational highlights, again with appropriate photos in high quality. Roughly half of the book, by page count, is a squadron-by-squadron photo show of US Navy Tomcat operators, with images showing interesting and significant aircraft, such as various paint schemes and high-time jets. The photo selection is first-rate, many taken by the author but supplemented as necessary to tell the story, and the excellent captions make this a self-guided tour of the Tomcat’s career. The final pages cover the Tomcat Sunset – its final days with the US Navy – and those F-14s still flying operationally with Iran’s air force. As an F-14 RIO I’ve “lived” the Tomcat legend, but the author provides many new details and his exceptional writing made this book enjoyable. An excellent addition to an enthusiast’s library.

The fastest thing out there --during its time at least
The big engines of the Tomcat made if faster than any Russian rivals, except the Mig-25 which lacked much turning ability. The flat underside of theTomcat generated a lot of lift and with the wings forward they plane generated about as much lift as the later Eagle. The Tomcat however had longer range radar and could use the Aim-54 Pheonix, which was never fitted on the F-15.This is an amazing book. I love it. Here are my favorite art books (available from Amazon) :- Icon by Frank Frazetta (fantasy art!)- Infinite Worlds by Vincent di Fate (sci fi and fantasy)- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy by Tim Gibson (futuristic jets)

A nice F-14 photo album.
If you like the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, then this book will likely appeal to you. It is, primarily a photo album of lovely images of Tomcats, and that is pretty much it. That said, there is a wealth of information to be found in this book, and one should not be too hasty in possibly writing it off. It is an interesting overview and for me, just enough information.

❤️ Love this book 📚 Great text, valuable info and high quality high quality print !
Fantastic book with lots of historic, technical, and various technical important info. The pictures are also very good high gloss print quality and some pictures are very rare.I use this book for my research work as an aviation geek, same as the F-15 book from the same series.I returned F-22 and F/A-18E/F/G due to lack of useful text however.Pictures are great in all books from this series so far, but 2 out of 4 books did not satisfy my curiosity because there was little to no useful text/info. Books about old planes like the F-14 and F-15 seem to be a lot more “valuable” for research and in depth learning.
