YUASA YUA1AMPCH ... A Worthwhile Purchase
Update: 04-06-2021A brief update to this charger. Vote status elevated to five stars. I love this product. It has stayed connected to my Camry battery whenever I'm not on a long haul to Virginia. My battery behaves as if brand new and I believe, without a doubt, the service life on it will be a very long one.Liking this charger so much, I returned for another purchase (2021) ... a Yuasa YUA1203000 3 Amp Automatic Battery Charger and Maintainer. This unit, although used frequently, is used as a travel companion and a charger for an ailing family member when out of state. This unit de-sulfates, a very useful function.All-in-all, I love my Yuasa chargers. Buy one .. I think you will too.=======================================================*** Note: I believe the YUA1AMPCH in my review is the Yuasa YUA1201000 I ordered ... just an updated code or model.I purchased this unit for my 2007 (52,000 mi) Camry which stays stored most of the time except when traveling out of state. On average, I've been connecting/disconnecting my larger battery charger every three weeks to keep the battery in shape. Frankly, due diligence can get tiring. The maintainer/charger is easy to use and came with two sets of terminals configured with an insulated quick-connector for safety. The first set uses battery clamps and the second, eyed terminals for permanent connection to the battery. After some brief testing, I connected the eyed terminals to my 5-year old standard "wet" (not AGM) 12-volt battery. Since the YUASA is more useful (I think) as a maintainer, I used my Schumacher charger to top off my battery and then deployed the YUASA.Over the course of six weeks, I periodically monitored the charger's activity by testing the battery's resting voltage with the YUASA still attached. When actively charging, the battery's voltage would register as high as 14.11 volts on the meter. When resting (several random checks), I found the voltage to hover between 13.61 and 13.67 volts. This is acceptable, per a little research on BatteryUniversity.com .. which by the way, deserves a permanent bookmark to your Favorites folder.I did however, notice a bit of nuanced behavior (will describe in a minute) .. that lead to my 4-star rating instead of five. When checking the battery voltage level, the YUASA would start charging the battery if I left the voltage meter connected to the battery for more than a few seconds. I consider this to be rather strange since voltmeters draw practically no voltage. I would rather have seen the reading stay level instead of going back up to 14+ volts which it invariably did each time I tested. However, as a more positive thought, this quick tendency to start charging again speaks to the unit's sensitivity. In an effort to more fully understand the charging behavior I called YUASA's technical support number and spoke with an individual that characterized herself as qualified to address my technical questions. It quickly became evident she was unable to conceptualize or process my questions (see above detail) and began reading from her scripted text to conclude the YUASA was "only manufactured for high-performance style batteries and -NOT- for car regular batteries".Surprised by her statement, I called her attention to page four (4) of the owner's guide stating, "Suits all lead-acid batteries. (Conventional, AGM & High-Performance AGM"). She was mystified by my disclosure and found herself completely unable to respond. I asked her if the statement in the Guide was wrong. She couldn't answer except to repeat her earlier statement that the YUASA was only for "High-Performance" batteries and not regular car batteries. As it had become clear she wasn't close to the answer-person I was seeking, I asked to speak with one of their engineers. Instead, I was referred to a salesman who was perhaps more capable but equally unable to address my questions other than to affirm it worked on all 12-volt "wet" and AGM batteries. From this, it may be concluded YUASA's technical support in PA lacks any real technical support training whatsoever. Buyers should consider this if true technical expertise might ever be needed. And perhaps to be fair, I might have been over-reaching with my expectations for an answer to my questions. However, it was important to more fully understand the YUASA's charging behavior as over-charging will considerably shorten a battery's serviceable life, thus negating the purpose for a maintainer to extend it.So in short, I like the YUASA very much but only time will tell regarding its reliability. What I can say is the device has -NEVER- left my battery feeling even warm (good sign) and after nearly six weeks of resting, the Camry fired up yesterday like it had a brand new battery installed.Readers can expect that after several months, I will report back to let everyone know where things stand with the YUASA. Otherwise, at this point, the YUASA is a solid "buy".

Simply put it is an awesome product and worth easily double what they charge.
I bought the Yuasa over the Battery Tender for a few reasons i read about online, but once it arrived it not only confirmed i bought a far better product then Battery Tender but that i will have to buy a few more. The Yuasa may sound like a Chinese knockoff because you do not see it in the stores like some other brands but it is kinda the opposite in reality. The Yuasa was highly regarded online as a longer lasting unit and to provide a much more stable charge which can be attributed to a much higher quality build and spec of parts used. Simply put it is an awesome product and worth easily double what they charge.Once i received the unit it was much much nicer than i expected. The wall wart had indicator leds, it not only says that it is plugged in, but what charge mode it is currently using, many trickle chargers only show the "on" light because that is all they do, turn on, and do not test the battery or keep an eye on it to see when it is charged (i had my old unit trash a battery this winter because it slowly over charged it to death)The wall wart is really not that big, still wider than a single plug but not so heavy it falls out of old electrical outlets. The wire is really nice rubber, and there is plenty of lead so you do not need to use an extension cord or remove the battery from the vehicle. In addition it comes with 2 wires to attach to the battery, one with battery eyelets so you can install it in your vehicle and easily connect the charger as needed. The second wire has spring clamps so you can charge a second battery or a battery that is out of the vehicle, you could cut the clamps off easily and wire that wire up to a second vehicle if you wanted.I bought mine to tend to a trailer battery, butI will be buying a few more for other vehicles, a really great buy.

Charges and Tends Perfectly. Best One I Own out of 6. Never Overcharges. Never Overheats Battery. Always Keeps Fully Charged
Despite it being small, this is actually the BEST of the 5 or 6 chargers/tenders that I own. Not kidding. Especially as a tender, this keeps the battery topped-off, but never over-charged. It dumps any overage. I check my batteries often and they never heat up on this tender.I have a real workload, and this tender has no problem keeping up with any of it:I have 3 Harley-Davidsons so that means I ride them each only about twice a month. Even though I'm in Florida and I can do this year-round, I still need battery tenders because the alarm systems drain the batteries on the bikes, and also any kind of lead-acid battery is simply going to drain over time (that's science folks).I can't find any problem with this tender, and it simply works, and works properly. I have no idea who actually makes it (Yuasa, probably Chinese manufacturer near Guangzhou) but it's very good quality.

These Yuasa tenders should be in top 20 at least.
I have 2 of these battery tenders. The first one is 900mh and is more than 10 years old. The second one is 1 amp and is 5 years old. They have been used to keep motorcycle batteries topped off. They have been plugged in continuously except when riding. The 900mh version was on the same battery for 8 years winter and summer. A mechanic friend convinced me I needed to replace the battery just based on age alone. Like an idiot, I got the battery tested AFTER I had already replaced it. It tested good so there was nothing at all wrong with it, no reason to replace it. It was still completely functional from being kept on the Yuasa tender.Because of this I bought the second one for another motorcycle. I haven't had to replace either motorcycle battery are 5 years.I do not understand how these battery tender, now tender/maintainer are not in the top 20. The price, now $50, probably keeps them from being #1 but based on their longevity they should be. 4.7 stars already. Yuasa is a well known name in the motorcycle industry for 7 decades. Yamaha motorcycle I bought in the late 60s came with a Yuasa battery. Nuff said

very good
works as advertised and the battery wire clamp is a boon. I am from India, and I bought a seperate 110-220V step up transformer for this charger, and I have used it couple of times now works like a charm.

Quick delivery, everything the way it's supposed to be
This is a great charger/maintainer, which I have used before. This is my second one. Both are for YUSA motorcycle batteries. I figured it would be best to keep the brands the same.
